The Supreme Court on Friday lifted the stay imposed by Punjab and Haryana High Court on proceedings against jailed Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in three cases relating to sacrilege of holy book in 2015.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar stressed that the imposition of emergency was a sacrilege of Dharma that can not be countenanced, condoned, overlooked or forgotten.
A mentally sick was beaten to death on Saturday following an alleged sacrilege incident at Gurdwara Sahib Baba Bir Singh in Bandala village of Ferozepur, according to police.
The president of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and ex-Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday publicly expressed his regret for the failure to apprehend the individuals responsible for the sacrilege incidents in 2015.

In a shocking incident that has caused uproar among the Sikh community, a party was allegedly organised in the premises of holy site Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara hurting the religious sentiments.
"Jasvir Singh was shifted to Mansa Civil Hospital. He was admitted to Mansa Civil Hospital by Jail Department. His condition worsened around 8:30 pm and he complained of chest pain and difficulty breathing. Despite our best efforts we could not save him," said Dr Ishan, Civil Hospital Mansa.
After the sacrilege incident at a gurdwara in Punjab's Morinda, Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh expressed concern over these incidents in Punjab.
He reiterated the incidents of 2015 when Guru Granth Sahib was burnt in Bargari and Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta in Ludhiana and said that several incidents of disrespect of holy books are coming forward.
