India's permanent ambassador to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj on Saturday highlighted that India supports a comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council across all five clusters, including an expansion in both the permanent and non-permanent categories.
The session was held under the priority theme of "Fostering Social Development and Social Justice through Social Policies to Accelerate Progress on the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to Achieve the Overarching Goal of Poverty Eradication."
India's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, firmly emphasised that India has been at the forefront of supporting action-oriented steps at global level in response to climate change, adding that it will always be a "champion" for climate action and climate justice.
President of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, said on Wednesday that reforming the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is "absolutely necessary," adding that today's "geopolitical realities" are not reflected in the council.

Kamboj noted that India is on track to surpass the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) target 1.2 before 2030. She stated that India is significantly focusing on women-led development.
India's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, strongly condemned the loss of civilian lives in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas saying that the alarming humanitarian crisis was 'clearly unacceptable'.
"As a contiguous neighbour to Afghanistan, a friend to its people, and as a country with direct stakes in ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan, allow me to place the following observations before the council," stated Kamboj on Wednesday.

Reiterating New Delhi's stand for the expansion of the multilateral institutions, India's permanent ambassador to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj said that multilateral institutions "rarely die", they simply "fade into irrelevance".
As many as 153 nations, including India, voted in favour of the resolution , while 10, including US and Austria voted against and 23 countries, including Argentina, Ukraine and Germany abstained from voting.
