Ruchira Kamboj, the first Indian woman to assume the position of India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, announced her retirement on Saturday.

Major Radhika Sen served in eastern DRC with the UN peacekeeping mission, MONUSCO, from March 2023 to April 2024 as the Commander of the Engagement Platoon for the Indian Rapid Deployment Battalion.
Addressing the open debate under the agenda item "Maintenance of international peace and security," Kamboj emphasised the longstanding friendship between India and Africa, rooted in historical ties and shared solidarity.
Amid Israel's military action in Gaza against Hamas, India has strongly condemned the civilian deaths in the ongoing conflict and said that the resulting humanitarian crisis in the region is "simply unacceptable."
Speaking at India's #CPD57 side event, "Localising the SDGs: Women in Local Governance in India Leads the Way," Kamboj emphasised the transformative impact of women's empowerment at the grassroots level.
Kamboj expressed hope that the membership of Palestine will be reconsidered in due course and that Palestine's endeavour to become a member of the UN will receive support.
"Within six years, India has achieved an 80 per cent financial inclusion rate, a feat that would have taken decades without such digital infrastructure," said Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj.
