Exiled human rights activist from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) Amjad Ayub Mirza emphasised that Pakistan now faces a severe crisis, not just about elections, and and poll rigging but, "morality."
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter rejected the poll results and announced a protest campaign against alleged rigging in the February 8 general elections, The News International reported.
The ECP's decision comes after the Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta on Saturday resigned from his post in protest against electoral irregularities, particularly rigging.
Amid rigging accusations in Pakistan's general elections by political parties and individuals, caretaker Prime Minister, Anwar ul-Haq Kakar said that whoever harbours any concerns regarding electoral irregularities is encouraged to pursue legal recourse through the available channels.
The Election Commission of Pakistan on Saturday rejected the allegations against the Rawalpindi Commissioner, Liaqat Ali Chatha, regarding rigging in the general election 2024, reported ARY News.
According to the report, the Commissioner held a press conference at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in which he tendered his resignation, saying that he did injustice to the people of Rawalpindi Division.
On Friday, MNA-elect Rasheed Akbar Nawani from NA-92, MPAs-elect Ahmad Nawaz Nawani PP-90 and Amir Inyat PP-92 (Bhakkar) and Rana Abdul Manan PP-272 (Muzaffarghar) called on the party leadership and announced their joining of the PML-N.
"Our protest will continue against the alleged rigging, but we have opened highways considering the difficulties facing the people," said the leader of a protesting party, adding that no roads are blocked now
Kirby said that US is "concerned" about reports coming out of Pakistan in terms of intimidation and voter suppression and is watching the situation "very closely."
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced "peaceful" protests across the nation on February 17 against the alleged rigging in the general elections conducted on February 8.
