As security forces shifted people in safe camps from violence-hit areas in Manipur, two babies were born at a temporary camp, Indian Army said on Sunday.
The Andhra Pradesh Government on Sunday stepped up its efforts to bring the Telugu students stranded due to the riots in Manipur to their native places safely.
Indian Army and Assam Rifles which were called in to curb violence in Manipur have successfully rescued nearly 23,000 civilians so far and moved them to the operating bases, a statement from the Indian Army said on Sunday.
Army and Assam Rifles were requisitioned by Manipur Government on May 3 and 4 in the immediate aftermath of inter-community clashes which erupted in a few districts of Manipur.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh is holding an all-party meeting on Saturday in the wake of the violence in the State. Political parties including Congress, NPF, NPP, CPI (M), Aam Aadmi Party and Shiv Sena are attending the meeting chaired by Biren Singh himself.
Following the violence in Manipur, the Indian army and Assam Rifles have so far evacuated more than 16,000 people from the violence-hit areas of the North Eastern state.
The slain terrorist has been identified as Abid Wani hailing from Kulgam. The police said that incriminating materials including an AK 47 rifle were recovered from the terrorist.
Army, Assam Rifles and Air Force along with civil administration have worked tirelessly in the past approximately 48 hours to restore law and order and bring back normalcy in Manipur, an official statement said on Friday.
