Expressing grief over the massive landslides and cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh, Singh said, “The Prime Minister should declare Himachal Pradesh a disaster-hit state and should start restoration work here.”
“Around 55 people have lost their lives in the state till now. The death toll might go up. Restoration work is being done on a war footing. Chandigarh-Shimla 4-lane highway along with other arterial roads has been opened," CM Sukhu said.
"Twenty to 25 people are trapped under debris here. A total of 21 people have died in the last 24 hours in the state. I appeal to people to stay indoors, to not venture near rivers and landslide-prone areas. Restoration work will begin as soon as rain stops," the chief minister said.
"The National Highway 5 near Chakki Mod near Parwanoo in Solan district is closed again due to the landslide. Restoration work is underway,' the Solan police informed.
This road was opened on Thursday after one week. The Revenue and Horticulture Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jagat Singh Negi said that over 200 roads are still closed and restoration is underway. He said that the losses continued daily.
