Following the World Cup in Australia, the selectors rested the senior players, leaving Hardik Pandya in charge of the Indian T20I team in New Zealand. Pandya took up the position for the first time in Ireland earlier this year after leading the IPL's inaugural Gujarat Titans to victory.
Jasprit Bumrah, who got ruled out of the ongoing T20 World Cup with a back injury, has been rested from these tours again in order to give him adequate time to recover fully.
India, who rested experienced central defender Sandesh Jhingan, went into an arrear in the 37th minute but came back strongly within six minutes to level the score through Ashique Kuruniyan.
India have made two changes to their winning combination from the previous ODI as Deepak Chahar and Avesh Khan replace Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.
