Congress demanded that the Railway Minister should resign after 18 people were killed in a stampede at New Delhi railway station on Saturday and termed the incident as the "failure of the government."
The Congress on Sunday demanded immediate resignation of Union Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnav over the death of 18 people during a stampede at New Delhi railway station on Saturday.
Congress MP Manish Tewari stated that the Railway Minister should take moral responsibility and resign after 18 people were killed at a stampede which broke out at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday evening.
"The Railway Minister should have resigned; we are not saying this on a political front, but as humanity, he should come forward and say that he is not able to stop the incidents."
"The common Indian cannot be left at the mercy of such a Railway Minister who calls the death of people a 'minor incident' and hides the death toll instead of expressing sympathy for the victims," Shrinate added.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Thursday welcomed the President's Rule in Manipur following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, calling it a "good step because there was no other option."
Biren Singh tendered his resignation to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhawan on Sunday, nearly two years after violence erupted in the state. Singh was accompanied by BJP president A Sharda, BJP's North East Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra, and at least 19 MLAs.
