Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday said that a special aircraft has been arranged to rescue 22 students of the state stranded in violence-hit Manipur.
Indian Army and Assam Rifles which were called in to curb violence in Manipur have successfully rescued nearly 23,000 civilians so far and moved them to the operating bases, a statement from the Indian Army said on Sunday.
Speaking to media persons on Sunday, Pawar said the parents of several of these stranded students met him at his residence in Baramati, requesting his intervention in ensuring their rescue.
Army and Assam Rifles were requisitioned by Manipur Government on May 3 and 4 in the immediate aftermath of inter-community clashes which erupted in a few districts of Manipur.
These fishermen had ventured into the sea from Thengapatnam, near Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on April 16. Subsequently, their boat developed engine failure and they were adrift without any help for five days.
The Ministry for Regional Cooperation has worked in recent years to train rescue and emergency teams, with the understanding that an event of this type of earthquake may affect not only the State of Israel but the entire regional space.
