The Indian Air Force (IAF) has intensified its flood relief and rescue operations in Northern India since Wednesday, with a primary focus on the severely affected Jammu and Punjab regions, the Ministry of Defence said on Friday.
Heavy rainfall has triggered severe flooding across nine districts in Punjab, including Pathankot, Batala, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, and Hoshiarpur, prompting large-scale relief operations.
The Governor also gave detailed information to the Union Home Minister about the recent flood situation in Punjab. He also apprised him about the progress of relief and rescue operations, the current situation of the affected areas and the cooperation required in future.
Following cloudbursts in Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Tehri, and Bageshwar, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami instructed District Magistrates to expedite rescue and relief. He emphasised immediate evacuation to safe places and restoration of essential services.
