Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the citizens of Kerala after the Union Cabinet approved renaming the state as 'Keralam,' saying that the state has now got the rightful name.
"Someone has gone to Japan and is signing MoUs. Japan is also known as Nippon. I hope the people of Japan do not get nervous that a 'name-changing' Chief Minister has arrived. I hope he doesn't come back after renaming Japan to Adityapur or Adityapuram," Yadav said.
"If she (Mamata Banerjee) has demanded it, then the Central government should accept it. If the name of Kerala can be changed, then why not the name of West Bengal?" Abdullah said.
BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla welcomed the Union Cabinet's decision to rename Kerala as 'Keralam', stating that it reflects respect for Indian heritage, while slamming the opposition for protesting such changes due to what he called a "slave mentality."
