After Delhi women's panel chief Swati Maliwal alleged that National Commission for Women (NCW) failed to act even after knowing about the Manipur incident, NCW chief Rekha Sharma on Friday said it is wrong to state that the Commission was sitting on complaints.
The Commission chairperson has also asked the Manipur DGP Rajiv Singh to invoke the Indian Penal Code (IPC)'s section 376D (gangrape), section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) including others, if found true, against culprits in the FIR.

While talking to ANI, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said, "It is very shocking news and a very painful incident. I saw the video. No one who was near the incident spot came to her rescue. After 20 hours the accused was caught."
According to an official statement, the bereaved family of the victim, having expressed their dissatisfaction with the actions undertaken thus far by the Kerala Police, approached the Commission, seeking intervention in the matter.
The Commission further said that the Commission's two-member inquiry committee headed by Chairperson Rekha Sharma will be visiting the state on May 25 for a thorough inquiry to address these concerns.
