The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided around six locations in West Bengal on Tuesday regarding an alleged corruption case involving the appointment of ineligible candidates as assistant teachers in primary schools.
Reacting to the notice by the ED, the Trinamool leader said on Sunday that the notice required him to appear before the agency on September 13, the very day when the Opposition INDIA bloc’s coordination committee is scheduled to meet in Delhi.
With the arrest of five people, police claimed to have busted a fake recruitment scam in the military engineering service in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district.
"The Bag committee report stated that the total amount accrued in the West Bengal teachers' recruitment scam was Rupees 1200 crore. The Chandrayaan-3 mission cost only half of it," Sukanta Majumdar said.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud refused to entertain the plea filed by the West Bengal government which challenged the Calcutta High Court order transferring investigation of municipality recruitment matters to the CBI.
Karnataka government has appointed a judicial commission under retired High Court Justice B Veerappa to probe allegations of large-scale irregularities in the recruitment of 545 police sub-inspectors (PSI).
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Tuesday sanctioned prosecution against former state cabinet minister Partha Chatterjee in the multi crore teacher recruitment scam under Central Bureau of Investigation, Raj Bhawan sources said.
"I have submitted some of the basic documents and cooperated with them (ED officials) too. I stayed here for 11 hours today. I think they (ED officers) are satisfied. I may come again if they ask me," said Trinamool Congress youth state president and Bengali actress Saayoni Ghosh.
The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday issued summon to Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee to appear before it on June 13 in connection with the alleged teacher recruitment scam.
The West Bengal government has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Calcutta High Court order which had refused to put a stay on the investigation conducted by the CBI and ED in connection with the alleged municipality recruitment scam.
