After Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil was booked under charges of alleged rape and coerced abortion, party MP KC Venugopal on Sunday clarified that the party has collectively taken a firm stand against him.
Congress MP Digvijaya Singh on Saturday asserted that strict punishment must be given to the accused in the alleged rape case of a 6-year-old girl in Goharganj after he was arrested by the officials.
Chandrasekhar said that Mamkootathil should have been charged under the relevant sections long before and thanked the media and the victim for speaking out about the action taken against him.
According to the police, the rape incident occurred on November 21 under the jurisdiction of Goharganj police station, where the minor was playing outside her home. The accused, identified as Salman, lured her with chocolates, took her to the forest and raped her.
According to the FIR, the survivor was sexually assaulted by Rahul on March 4 this year at her flat in Thrikkannapuram, Thiruvananthapuram. The complaint states that Rahul assaulted her and forced her into sexual intercourse.
