As the rains wreak havoc in Himachal Pradesh, claiming the lives of over 70 people, in the last few days, the government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday declared the whole state as a "natural calamity affected area".
"There was heavy rain in the area late at night yesterday, after which the water level of the Pranmati river started flowing above the danger mark. Due to this the Pindar river also came in spate," Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana said.
The water level of River Pranmati has increased to a great extent following heavy rainfall in the state. The authorities have alerted the locals in the area to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents, said officials on Friday.
"Efforts are being made to make way for drainage of excessive rainwater with the help of JCB. SDRF is constantly trying to help the affected people," officials said.
