Several trains on the Ambala-Shri Ganganagar route were cancelled on Thursday due to the 'Rail roko' protest by farmers of Punjab, demanding financial aid against the losses incurred during the floods, and a Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee.
As the three-day-long rail blockade protest began on Thursday, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Krantikari chairman Surjeet Singh said that the protesting farmers also want the Centre to double the number of work days, guaranteed by the government under MGNREGA scheme.
According to officials, the raid was carried out on Wednesday afternoon at Nowdapara Railgate adjacent to National Highway 34 which falls under the jurisdiction of Berhampore Police Station in the district.
