The Supreme Court on Thursday observed that the appointment of ad-hoc judges in the High Courts needs to be simplified and asked Attorney General R Venkataramani and Senior Advocate Arvind P Datar to brainstorm and explore a less cumbersome process relating to the appointment of ad-hoc judge
Attorney General R Venkataramani, appearing for the Centre, objected to the mixing up of the appointment of Goel with the larger issue of the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Election Commissioners (ECs) already being heard by the court.
The Central government on Monday sought time from the Supreme Court to review Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code which criminalises the offence of sedition saying "something may happen" in the upcoming Winter Session of the Parliament.
"The government is looking into the issue and some changes may happen in the upcoming winter session of Parliament," Attorney General R Venkataramani told the top court.
