In a major setback to the ruling party in Odisha ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Mahtab announced his resignation from the primary membership of the party on Friday.
Mahtab, who has represented the Cuttack Lok Sabha constituency for six consecutive terms, stated, "I have sent my resignation letter to BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at 4 pm today."
The 60-year-old MLA from the Badrinath assembly seat in Uttarakhand joined the BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi.
Punjab Congress MLA Raj Kumar Chabbewal on Friday announced his resignation from the primary membership of the party with immediate effect. He also resigned as an MLA.
"The time has now come to suspend my campaign. I said I wanted Americans to have their voices heard. I have done that. I have no regrets," she said Wednesday in South Carolina. "Although I will no longer be a candidate, I will not stop using my voice for the things I believe in," she said
In a major setback to the Trinamool Congress just before the Lok Sabha elections, the party's veteran leader Roy tendered his resignation from the post as well as from the party on Sunday.
Day after being replaced from Delhi's Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat, which he held since 2014, with Praveen Khandelwal, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, announced on Sunday that he was quitting active politics.
