Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal intervention in the case of freed ex-Indian Navy veterans, who were initially sentenced to death by Qatar has become the talk of the town after the Ministry of External Affairs announced their release on Monday.
The Qatari Court on Thursday commuted the death penalty sentence of eight ex-Indian naval officers it had arrested last year in the Dahra Global case, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a press statement. The sentence has now been reduced to jail terms.
A Qatari court has accepted the appeal document on the sentencing of eight former Indian naval personnel to death, sources familiar with the matter said.
