With star shuttler PV Sindhu and seasoned table tennis star Sharath Kamal as the flagbearers, the group of 78 India athletes and officials arrived in the Parade of Nations at the River Seine in the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024 on Friday.
The Olympic gold medalist, Abhinav Bindra, expressed his feelings after carrying the Olympic flame in the Paris 2024 Torch Relay, saying that it was an honour beyond words.
"My greetings to all the athletes who have gone there to participate. Play fearless. The medals that are destined for us, we will get. Just give your best. I hope that we will get the maximum number of medals this time...," Harbhajan told ANI.
Ahead of the opening ceremony of the much-awaited Paris 2024 Olympics, India's flag-bearers, Achanta Sharath Kamal and PV Sindhu, expressed their excitement ahead of the memorable moment.
Over 100 athletes will represent India in 69 medal events across 16 sports at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which officially gets underway on July 26 in France.
The 16 sports India will be competing in during Paris 2024 are: Archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis and tennis.
During the meeting, it was revealed that in the last international season, India won 233 medals across senior and junior categories. One of these big achievements included India's historic bronze medal at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship in Dubai.
