Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (PKMSC) district president Aranjeet Singh said that they will gather in Phagwada over the issues concerning the farmers of the state.
The farmers in Punjab on Saturday sat down at Phagwara Main Chowk in a one-day protest against the government to press their various demands including timely paddy procurement.
"I can't understand why the farmers aren't getting money when the central government has already released Rs 44,000 crore. Money should be given to farmers and paddy must be purchased," he said.
Meanwhile, as per reports, the farmers will resort to a road blockade at a few places in Punjab for an indefinite period from October 26 to protest against the "tardy" paddy procurement and other issues.
Chairman of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Krantikari) Punjab, Surjeet Singh Phul spoke to ANI and said, "On October 26, both forums will do a road blockade at 4 points. We will begin the protest at 1 pm and sit on the streets."
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka, Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Augustine George Masih slammed both the states while noting that not a single prosecution had taken place against stubble burning incidents.
As the harvest season begins in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday outlined several demands from the Centre including transportation be provided by the central government and that the procurement rate for dry harvest be adjusted from 0.5% to 1%.
Farmers, commission agents, and rice millers have announced a big agitation against the government's policies regarding crop procurement in Punjab from October 13.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta, and Ujjal Bhuyan asked both states to continue their meetings with farmers and shall apprise them of the outcome of the same on the next date of hearing, September 2.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Friday demanded that the new government at the Centre should focus on addressing the grievances of the farmers and fulfil the promises made to them previously.
The protesters, led by Kissan Ittehad Pakistan, gathered at the GPO Chowk on The Mall and tried to march towards the Punjab Assembly, where a heavy contingent of police intercepted them.
