Shehbaz Sharif's statement was contrary to over a dozen economists who believe that Pakistan faces the renewed risk of recession amid a deepening political and economic crisis and a delay in the revival of the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) bailout programme.
Contingents of police that were closing in on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan's residence in Zaman Park to arrest him for the last two days have started retreating.
In an online address to the country Khan stated that "hope lies with the courts and establishment" in ending this "farce" as law enforcement agencies made another push to enter the former prime minister's Zaman Park residence in Lahore, local media reported.
"Pakistan's most popular leader and former Prime Minister was attacked through bullets, expired tear gas and etc. The fascism of this regime stands exposed," PTI tweeted on its official Twitter handle on Wednesday.
In a video message, Imran said, "This is part of the London plan and an agreement has been signed there to put Imran in jail, make the PTI fall and finish all cases against Nawaz Sharif."

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and supporters have taken control of Zaman Park in Lahore after the police, which earlier arrived to arrest former prime minister Imran Khan in the Toshakana case, withdrew from the Canal Road, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

Shortly after 2 pm on Tuesday, armoured police vehicles had arrived outside Zaman Park residence in Lahore with the intention of arresting Imran but senior Islamabad police official had refrained from commenting on the case in which officials were acting against the PTI chairman.
