"The western disturbances are likely to affect the Himalayan region from the night of January 20 to January 26 while the plains of the northwest will be affected from January 23 to January 25," tweeted IMD.
Adding to the woes of the people, the meteorological department has predicted rain and snowfall in Joshimath, Chamoli and Pithoragarh on January 19, 20, 23 and 24.
IMD said that due to approaching of two Western disturbances in quick succession, minimum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by 3 to 5 degree Celsius over many parts of northwest India during next three days

The IEA also predicts that global coal production will peak in 2023, only slightly above the 2022 level and fall to 8.221 billion tonnes by 2025, below the 2022 level.
