In a major development, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) announced that the ‘Vikram Lander’ has been set into sleep mode at around 08 AM (Indian Standard Time) on Monday morning.
"All planned Rover movements have been verified. The Rover has successfully traversed a distance of about 8 meters. Rover payloads LIBS and APXS are turned ON. All payloads on the propulsion module, lander module, and rover are performing nominally," ISRO said in a tweet.
Premadasa, in Lankan Parliament, noted that the mission, launched on July 14, reached the Moon's South Pole, making India the sole nation to achieve such a feat.
Associate Project Director of the Chandrayaan 3 mission Kalpana said that it was a memorable moment for her and for the whole team after the Vikram lander carrying the Pragyaan rover in its belly touched down on the lunar surface.
