Punjab Power Minister ETO announced that the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) has successfully met its all-time highest demand of 16,078 MW on June 19 this year, surpassing last year's maximum demand of 15,325 MW.

According to Ministry of Power press release, on 17 June, the Northern Region alone recorded its highest peak demand of 89 GW, which was successfully met despite the prevailing heat wave.
Due to the scorching heat wave in Uttar Pradesh, the state's peak power demand reached 29,820 MW on Tuesday night, the highest ever recorded. Electricity consumption also surged to approximately 643 million units.
According to the press release by the Ministry of Coal, a Sub-Group mechanism, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Coal, Ministry of Railways, and power generating companies, has played a crucial role in maintaining this steady supply.
As of May 29, Indian gas-based power generation reached 4,646.53 million kilowatt-hour (kWhr) for the month, a substantial increase from 2,631 million kWhr a year earlier, according to data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
Uttar Pradesh has achieved the highest supply of 29282 MW securing the top position in the country while the highest peak demand in Maharashtra was only 27517 MW on May 23. Maharashtra has held this record for the last two years.
