Lauding the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party government for implementing pro-poor policies, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that 25 crore people were taken out of poverty in the last 10 years.
As the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seeks a third term in office, Union Minister Rajnath Singh asserted on Saturday that the BJP government, if elected to power, will not let even a single person in the country stay below the poverty line.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday that the Modi government has played an important role in bringing 25 crore people above the poverty line during the last 10 years.
"After 65 years of empty slogans of 'Garibi Hatao', Prime Minister Narendra Modi through his focused, hardworking, determined, corruption-free governance and 'Garib Kalyan' policies, has lifted 25 crore Indians out of poverty," Chandrasekhar said at a press conference in New Delhi.
"I would like to tell Amit Shah that when there was a double-engine government, as per RBI's 2018 report 40 per cent of the population was below poverty line. Today, NITI Aayog report says that 40 lakh people have risen above the poverty line...," Baghel said.
