"My faith in justice is restored," the mother of the 11-year-old survivor welcomed the Supreme Court judgement that set aside an Allahabad High Court order on Thursday. The High Court's previous ruling had diluted charges against two men accused of sexually assaulting her daughter.
The accused were the victims' maternal cousin and his friend, who were apprehended in Morena following a complaint filed at the Bijoli Police Station by the victims. This incident took place in September.
A yoga guru was arrested by Rajarajeshwari Nagar (RR Nagar) police in Bengaluru's West division for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor boy and several women, authorities said on Thursday.
Sharing information about the matter, Kannauj Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kumar Anand said, "Last night around 1.30 am, a call was received on UP 112 wherein a girl said that she had been stripped and an attempt of assault had been made on her."
The High Court had said that to make out an offence under POCSO Act, a child or children should have been used for pornography purposes. It added that to constitute an offence under IT Act the accused must have published, transmitted and created the material.
An FIR was registered in Bengaluru under the Protection of Children from Sexual Assault (POCSO) Act against India hockey player Varun Kumar, who has been accused of allegedly raping a minor under the pretext of marriage.
The victim girl's grandmother lodged an FIR on May 21, 2018, against the man, who was 40 years old at the time of the crime, for kidnapping and raping the minor. The convict took the victim to a temple and raped her.
"When the mother inquired the child in confidence, the incident came to the fore. The complainant said that the child narrated the incident about the assault and revealed that the accused lured the minor to the washroom on the pretext of giving her a chocolate," said police.
