The Supreme Court on Tuesday fixed July 21 for hearing plea of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenging the Gujarat High Court order which declined to stay his conviction in the criminal defamation case in which he was sentenced to two years in jail by Surat court over 'Modi surname' remark.
The administration declared that anyone responsible for the mayhem on May 9—during which numerous government structures and military institutions were vandalized—would be tried in military courts.

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Election Commission of India to respond to a plea seeking cross-verification by the voters of votes cast by them as "counted as recorded" in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT).
The bench comprising Justices Abhay S Oka and Sanjay Karol, asked respondents, including Nishikant Dubey and Manoj Tiwari, to file their response on Jharkhand Government plea.
