The Delhi High Court has held that airline pilots, including pilots-in-command, fall within the definition of "workman" under the Industrial Disputes Act, ruling that their primary role is technical and operational flying the aircraft and not managerial or supervisory in nature.
The Airline Pilots' Association of India (ALPA India) has been invited to Parliament by the Parliamentary Standing Committee to present its concerns on Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL), pilot fatigue and growing safety risks in the aviation sector.
In its letter addressed to the DGCA, ALPA highlighted that the decision to extend exemptions to the airline contradicts prior agreements, compromises pilot safety, and undermines the intent of the FDTL regulations, which are designed to protect passengers and crew.
Speaking to ANI on the situation at Mumbai Airport, Randhawa said IndiGo's vast network has amplified the scale of the disruptions. "Indigo operates approximately 2,200 flights all over India," he said.
In a post on X, Chaturvedi said, "Indigo Airlines operations have been badly hit, leading to massive passenger distress. I have repeatedly raised concerns over the duopoly that prevails in the air, which leads to higher air fares, poor infrastructure, and flight cancellations."
