In a major success against drug trafficking, Manipur Police on Tuesday arrested two inter-state drug peddlers along with approximately 2 kgs of brown sugar from Sekmai Pangaltabi area under Sekmai Police station, Imphal West district, a press release said.
The Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Manipur Police, conducted anti-narcotics operations in the Senapati and Kangpokpi districts of Manipur. The joint operations led to the apprehension of six drug peddlers and the recovery of a large quantity of narcotics.
According to the information, the arrested individuals were identified as 21-year-old Md. Khursid Alam from Lilong Litan Makhong in Thoubal district, and a 37-year-old Md. Akbar from Khergao Awang Leikai in Imphal East. Both were arrested in a follow-up operation.
Deputy SP Udhampur Prehlad Sharma, while talking to ANI, said that Udhampur Police tightened the noose of drug peddlers and bovine smugglers in Udhampur.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Sribhumi police seized 650 grams of heroin and 10,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 5 crore at Puwamara, leading to the arrest of four drug peddlers.
Sharing an X post, CM Dhami wrote, "In the morning, a meeting was held with the police and senior officials at the official residence to realise the resolve of 'Drug Free Uttarakhand'."
The exercise was conducted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of heightened security measures ordered by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to ensure peaceful celebrations.
According to officials, the two women were caught carrying 23 kg-- 660 grams of dry ganja, concealed in eight packets inside two trolley bags. Preliminary interrogation revealed that they were en-route to Chennai via Deoghar with the narcotics consignment.
In a significant move to combat the drug menace and dismantle the infrastructure supporting narcotics trafficking, the Srinagar Police has attached a residential property worth approximately Rs 75 lakhs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
In a joint operation late on Monday night, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended three alleged drug peddlers at Agartala Railway Station and seized 3 kg 240 grams of dry cannabis concealed in a large carry bag (pith bag).
