Communist Party of India (CPI) MP Binoy Viswam on Thursday termed the Centre's decision to abstain from voting in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution regarding the Palestine Issue an "act of abstinence" and said that the decision is a departure from India's previous stance.
Notably, the draft resolution 'Israeli practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem' was adopted by a recorded vote on Friday, with 87 votes in favour, 26 against and 53 abstentions, including India.
While addressing the United Nations Security Council, Indian Permanent Representative to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj said, "No alternative to the two-State solution to guarantee lasting peace between Israel and Palestine and direct negotiation the only path that can lead us there."
Referring to Jerusalem which is central to the national visions of both Palestinians and Israelis, Blinken said, "We (US) will also continue to unequivocally oppose any acts that undermine the prospects of a two-state solution."
"On the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, I reiterate India's unwavering support to the Palestinian cause," the statement reads.
The first explosion occurred close to the main entrance of Jerusalem in Givat Shaul around 7 am. Shortly after, a second blast occurred at the Ramot junction, another entrance to the city, The Times of Israel (TOI) reported.
