"We have information that Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad use some hospitals in the Gaza Strip, including al-Shifa, and tunnels underneath them to conceal and to support their military operations and to hold hostages," spokesperson John Kirby told reporters during a briefing.
Taking coordinated action along with the United Kingdom against the Hamas entities following their October 7 onslaught, the United States Department of Treasury has imposed a third round of sanctions targeting Hamas-affiliated individuals.
The military added that forces were joined by medical teams and Arabic speakers "who have undergone specified training to prepare for this complex and sensitive environment, with the intent that no harm is caused to the civilians being used by Hamas as human shields."

Amid the onslaught by Israeli forces on Gaza following Hamas attacks, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and provided him an update about the ongoing situation
