The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday announced that it has scheduled a meeting with political parties in October to discuss the code of conduct for elections, which it expects to hold in January, Pakistan-based Dawn reported.
Addressing a press briefing on Friday after a high-level meeting at the PM House, Kakar once again ruled out the prospect of announcing the election date.
In a highly-anticipated meeting of its Central Executive Committee (CEC) on Thursday, the PPP leadership called on the electoral watchdog to hold general elections at the earliest, if not within the 90-day constitutional limit.
His remarks came in the midst of the ongoing debate over when elections should be held, as political circles are still at odds about the election's timetable.
In the statement, the electoral watchdog said the purpose of reducing the duration of the delimitation process is to ensure polls are held at an earliest.

The ECP spokesperson said that the commission lodged three new political parties, including Hisar Muslim Party, Apni Party Pakistan and Haq Do Tehreek Balochistan.
