Following Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari's empty rhetoric on the Indus Water Treaty, BJP MP Tarun Chugh on Saturday criticised Bhutto, noting that treaties hold significance only when there is trust between parties involved.
Following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, India took a firm step by announcing the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. In response, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari resorted to empty rhetoric, further raising tensions between the two nations.
The PPP, which is in power in Sindh, farmers and other stakeholders have opposed the Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI), worth USD 3.3 billion, launched by the federal government to construct six canals to irrigate 1.2 million acres of "barren land" in south Punjab.
In recent times, Karachi has seen a rise in traffic accidents, particularly involving dumpers and water tankers -- which claimed the lives of nearly 500 people and injured 4,879 in 2024, according to hospital data.
Highlighting the alarming statistics, Senator Rehman noted that rainfall in the region has decreased by 40 percent, further exacerbating the water shortage.
The JSM Chairman Riaz Ali Chandio, who led a protest rally on the National Highway in Moro, Naushehro Feroze district, said they carefully selected April 4 to hold a protest to neutralise the propaganda being spread by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
She said that Pakistan's federal government is consistently taking decisions without holding discussions with PPP, including the formation of the Pakistan Maritime and Shipping Port Authority.
