The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday reserved a verdict on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan's plea seeking suspension of sentence by the trial court's Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Humayun Dilawar in the Toshakhana case.
The Election Commission of Pakistan defended its move of delaying polls beyond a 90-day limit and said that the true representation of voters, contesting candidates will be impossible without fresh delimitation of constituencies and revised electoral rolls.
The notification states that the ECP is “mandated with the constitutional duty to organise and conduct elections in terms of Article 218(3) of the Constitution and to make such arrangements as are necessary to ensure that the elections are conducted honestly, justly, fairly and in accordance
The ECP spokesperson said that the commission lodged three new political parties, including Hisar Muslim Party, Apni Party Pakistan and Haq Do Tehreek Balochistan.
Haji Ghulam Ali's decision comes after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's interim Chief Minister Azam Khan asked his cabinet members to tender their resignation after receiving a letter from the ECP regarding the politically affiliated people in the cabinet.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa interim Information Minister Feroze Jamal on Thursday said that 19 members of the caretaker cabinet, including him have tendered their resignations.
The next general elections in Pakistan might get delayed, according to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, reported Dawn.
“If delimitation of constituencies is carried out then the elections will be held in the third week of February or the first week of March,” the security czar said while speaking on Geo News' programme "Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath" on Monday.
