Anticipation has reached feverish pitch among cricket fans in Pakistan as the countdown begins for the much-awaited Asia Cup 2023 with the hosts taking on Nepal in the first match of the tournament at iconic Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan on Wednesday
The Asia Cup to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka will start from August 30 with the match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan on September 2 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy set to serve as the Men in Blue's campaign opener.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president, Jay Shah, on Wednesday announced the schedule for the Asia Cup 2023. The tournament will kick off on August 30, with arch-rivals India and Pakistan set to lock horns in Kandy, Sri Lanka,
Shah, who is also the current president of the Asian Cricket Council, stated that an emergent ACC meeting will be conducted to determine whether the PCB's hybrid format for the 2023 Asia Cup is possible.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Jay Shah last year announced that the 2023 edition of the tournament will be held at a neutral venue, instead of Pakistan.
Roger Binny had said last month also that the board does not take decisions on its own on the Indian team's travel to Pakistan or other countries and relies on the decision of the government.
