The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Centre on a plea seeking directions for a caste-based census for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the upcoming 16th Indian Census.
BC Rajyadhikara Samiti president Suresh Dasu on Saturday said that people of the Other Backward Class (OBC) community are being "oppressed" even after 75 years of the country's independence.

The Chhattisgarh assembly on Friday unanimously passed two amendment bills hiking reservation in admissions and government jobs in the state for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Scheduled Caste (SC) communities, in line with the proportion of their populations.

He urged the law minister to insert provisions similar to Article 16 (4A) and (4B) and said that "Otherwise attaining complete social justice would remain a distant dream."
"Our community (Kunchitiga) should also be included in the list of Other Backward Class (OBC) with the Centre. If Kumaranna (HD Kumaraswamy) becomes the next Chief Minister, I will be the first person to be happy," BJP MLC M Chidanand Gowda said.
