Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan on Monday said the proposed no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is about safeguarding the tradition of Parliament, voicing strong concern over what she described as "insults to women MPs and former Prime Ministers."
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Yadav said, "All of us in the opposition want the parliament to function, and it becomes very important when such a big deal has happened with America. It's not a deal, it's a 'dheel'."
The sources said that the opposition's claims that there was no imminent threat to the Prime Minister "are baseless and stand contradicted by the events that transpired on the floor of the House" last week.
Speaking to ANI, Kushwaha said, "The Opposition has become desperate, in this desperation, they take unconstitutional, unnecessary steps as they want to somehow revive themselves. The motion they are bringing now has no meaning whatsoever."
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday said he has not been consulted regarding the Opposition's plan to move a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, even as he acknowledged being aware of the intention.
Congress MP from the Tamil Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency Karti Chidambaram, however, told ANI today that his party's partnership with the DMK is intact and that they will fight the upcoming election unitedly to defeat the opposition AIADMK-BJP alliance.
"The throne belongs to the Constitution, not to the ruling party in government. The way things are being imposed out of prejudice, with the opposition's voice being suppressed, is very saddening," Bhagat told ANI outside Parliament.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi claimed that he was given a personal assurance that he would be allowed to raise certain points on the floor before discussion on the budget starts, but now the Lok Sabha Chair is "going back on their word"
Speaking to ANI, Chidambaram said, "Parliament is for debating and following procedure that includes giving space to the Opposition to raise issues of concern to the nation. Opposition parties use various tools to register their protest, and this is a tool to do so."
After the Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary moved the motion to discuss the Union Budget, Opposition MPs continued to demand a discussion on the India-US trade interim framework.
