Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya launched a scathing attack on the Opposition parties on Thursday for claiming credit for the Centre's decision to conduct a caste census.
Shiv Sena-UBT leader Anand Dubey welcomed the Union Cabinet's approval to include caste enumeration in the upcoming census but questioned the timing of the decision, suggesting it may be linked to the upcoming Bihar elections.
"There's a race between Congress and INDI-Alliance parties to take credit for it (Union Cabinet's decision on caste census). I want to ask Rahul Gandhi ji why the caste census never happened under the Congress government," Chouhan said.
Amid ongoing political sparring, parties across the political spectrum have welcomed the Union Cabinet's decision to approve the caste census, marking a moment of consensus on a sensitive issue that has long been at the centre of debates on social justice and representation.
Welcoming the Cabinet's decision to conduct a caste census, Ashok Gehlot said the move reflects the growing pressure created by Congress and its leadership, particularly Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
