To make onions affordable and readily available to consumers, the Department of Consumer Affairs has started the retail sale of onions through various outlets and mobile vans, according to the press release.
The price of onions hiked four times to Rs 80 a kg in the state capital Bhopal while thrice to Rs 60 a kg in Indore. The consumers are upset with the price rise yet are forced to buy as it is a necessary vegetable.
"A number of people from BJP are going to join Congress and they all will support the truth. They are understanding the sentiments of the voters of Madhya Pradesh so they wanted to join the Congress party," Nath said.
The Centre on Sunday said that the Department of Consumer Affairs is monitoring Onion exports and prices on a daily basis to ensure stable domestic prices and availability to consumers
Buyers have expressed concern over the rising onion prices in several parts of the country and urged the government to take additional steps to bring it down. The price of onion has touched Rs 80 per kg in Mumbai.
Consumers can avail onions at a subsidized rate of Rs 25 per kg through retail outlets of the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Limited (NCCF) from August 21, said a government release on Sunday.
The central government will maintain 3 lakh tonne onion in the 2023-24 season as buffer stock, Union food minister Piyush Goyal informed Parliament On Wednesday.
