National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday took cognizance of the Howrah violence during Ram Navami festivities and issued a notice to the West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) and district's Commissioner, seeking to submit a report within two weeks.
Expressing serious concern over the reported hooch tragedy, the Commission has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, Bihar calling for a detailed report within six weeks.
The notices have also been issued to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, Uttarakhand calling for a detailed report in the instant case of the death of an inmate at the Dehradun Rehab Centre.
"The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, India has taken cognizance of complaints alleging that two brothers Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf were killed by miscreants in police custody in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh on April 15, 2023," NHRC said in a statement.
It has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Government of Bihar, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Patna, and the Commissioner, Patna Municipal Corporation calling for a detailed report in the matter within six weeks.
