Condemning the detention of Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Thursday termed the action taken by Punjab Police as a "jungle raj".
Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Thursday was detained by Punjab police in connection with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
"54 drug smugglers have been booked under the PIT- NDPS Act and PSA in the Baramulla district. These hard-core drug peddlers were operating in Uri, Pattan, Baramulla, Kreeri and Tangmarg sub-divisions," said Jammu and Kashmir police.
Five people including a woman were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act after recovering seven grams of heroin from their possession in Shimla city, a top police official said on Saturday.
The official added that the accused was wanted in multiple cases of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS)Act, and his two accomplices have already been arrested by the SSOC Amritsar after recovering 14kg of heroin from their possession.
According to officials, the drug peddler, identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Rather, a resident of Hari Parigam Awantipora, was involved in four cases registered under the NDPS Act and his activities were "incorrigible" and accordingly booked under PIT NDPS Act.
