Indian Navy chief Admiral R Hari Kumar has issued directions to take all possible actions to enhance security in the Arabian Sea region, officials said on Sunday.
The Indian Navy commissioned the indigenously built stealth-guided missile destroyer INS Imphal on Tuesday in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Navy chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Ekanth Shinde and other dignitaries.
Speaking to ANI about the newly commissioned warship, the Navy Chief said, "The name Imphal is very significant. This is the first time we are naming a major warship after a city in the Northeast of Bharat."
During the visit, the harbour activities are also scheduled during the operational turnaround including a cross-ship visit by personnel from the Royal Thai Navy (RTN), Academy and a planning conference for maritime partnership exercise (MPX).
