The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of an incident that allegedly took place in Motihari (Bihar), where a woman was beaten by a group of men.
Following the viral video of women being paraded naked in Manipur, National Commission for Women chief Rekha Sharma on Friday said that there were several complaints from people outside the country and Manipur. She also mentioned that NCW is in touch with officers from Manipur.
After Delhi women's panel chief Swati Maliwal alleged that National Commission for Women (NCW) failed to act even after knowing about the Manipur incident, NCW chief Rekha Sharma on Friday said it is wrong to state that the Commission was sitting on complaints.
"NCW has formally directed the Head of Public Policy at Twitter India to remove the video showing the disgraceful act of two women being paraded naked. This video compromises the victims' identities and is a punishable offence," the NCW tweeted.
Taking to Twitter, NCW said, "NCW strongly condemns the horrific incident in Rajasthan where 4 people, including a six-month-old, were burnt to death. Taking suo motu cognizance, NCW has contacted the DGP Rajasthan urging prompt action on this tragic matter".
The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday condemned the Manipur incident after a video of two women being paraded naked on a road by a group of men went viral on social media.
Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani on Thursday informed via Twitter that both the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and National Commission for Women have taken cognizance in the Rajasthan's Jodhpur incident.
