A pregnant woman named Anushiya Mayil who was airlifted by the Indian Air Force rescue team, delivered a baby at the Government Rajaji Hospital on Wednesday morning.
The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday dismissed the bail plea of Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer Ankit Tiwari who was arrested by Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths in connection with an alleged bribe case.
"Two people died during floods in Navalakshmipuram village of Thoothukudi district. Currently, the government is involved in the recovery of their bodies," said Tamil Nadu Public Works Minister EV Velu.

As Tamil Nadu grapples with the havoc wreaked by unprecedented rains, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is continuing its humanitarian assistance and relief operations in several flood-affected districts of the state.
In response to the floods in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu, the Indian Air Force has deployed Medium Lift Helicopters (MLH) and Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Dhruv for HADR(Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief ) efforts.
Four districts in South Tamil Nadu have been affected by the rains in the last two days. Except for Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli, most of the farmlands have been affected in the South, said KKSSR Ramachandran, Tamilnadu Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has urged Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to urgently deploy more helicopters for rescue and relief in Tamil Nadu's southern districts, severely affected by unprecedented rainfall.
