Eid-ul-Fitr, a festival marking the end of the holy month of Ramzan, was celebrated with religious fervour throughout Meghalaya on Monday, with devotees taking part in special prayer sessions at the various Idgahs and mosques.
People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Monday extended her greetings to everyone on Eid and expressed her sadness over the suffering of Muslims in the country.
Speaking to ANI, the SP MLA said, "When ministers and even the chief minister say things against Muslims every day, then there will be hatred in the common man against Muslims, and this is the result of the same."
Sheikh Salahuddin, the guardian of the mosque, said, "Today is Eid-ul-Fitr. Every believer comes here and prays. Every man hugs every person during the festival of Eid. People come in thousands to offer Namaz on Eid."
The atmosphere was filled with spiritual harmony as the faithful, clad in festive attire, marked the end of the holy month of Ramadan with prayers, goodwill, and a renewed sense of community.
From bustling city centers to peaceful rural towns, the spirit of togetherness and devotion was palpable as families, friends, and neighbors shared in the festivities.
After meeting Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sachin Gunjalay of Zone 10, Nirupam stated that while restaurants can continue serving non-vegetarian food, open stalls should remain closed during the festival.
Speaking to ANI, Mahawar said, "Babur was cruel, who made a structure in his name after destroying Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and changed the city's name to Faizabad. He cannot be our hero. If you want to rename cities in the name of Muslims, name them after people like APJ Abdul Kalam, Ashfaqull
"This is a way to mark protest in a democracy. Today, you will see Muslims wearing black armbands come to offer namaz. This will send a clear message that the community is against this bill," AIMPLB spokesperson Rasool IIyas told ANI.
