The Supreme Court, for the second consecutive day, will hear a batch of petitions challenging the Constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
The Supreme Court is likely to pass an interim order on Thursday concerning the recently enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, following petitions filed by multiple parties, both supporting and opposing the contentious legislation.
Speaking to ANI, Pal, who was also the Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee, pointed out that the top court itself had said that the Waqf Board is not a religious body but a legal one.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday indicated that it may pass interim order to stay certain key provisions of the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, and also expressed concern over violence in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.
"You are against Muslims, but in Saudi Arabia, you meet Muslims... If you go to Dubai, UAE, whose hospitality do you take there... You say one thing in your country and another outside," Banerjee said while addressing the gathering in a meeting with Muslim clerics.

Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has defended his role as Chairman of the Central Waqf Council and stated that the Ministry of Minority Affairs is not exclusive to Muslims but represents all six officially recognised minority communities in India.
"I want to raise some big questions for Mamata Banerjee. First, if women are being given a place in the Waqf Board, in the centre, and all the states, do you have a problem with that? Second, if backward Muslims are getting representation in the Waqf Board, do you have a problem with that?"
Unrest broke out in Murshidabad during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on April 11. The law has been a contentious issue in the region. The protests turned violent, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to several others, with widespread property damage.
