The Supreme Court on Tuesday posted for July 11 a batch of petitions challenging the pre-mature release of 11 convicts who had gang-raped Bilkis Bano and murdered her family members during the 2002 Godhra riots.
The court while rejecting the contention of Aftab Amin Poonawala, accused in the Shraddha Walkar murder case said that it would not be expedient in the interest of justice to expect the prosecution to bring on record the exact manner in which the alleged offence was committed.
The accused have been identified as Ajit and Bhupendra. They were on the run after the murder incident which happened last Friday (May 5) in which six people were shot dead while two others sustained injuries.
During the hearing on Monday, additional session judge Dharmendra Tada found the convict guilty under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302, 201, 489A, 489B, 489C and 489D. Judge Tada awarded death penalty to the convict in IPC Section 302, life imprisonment separately in Sections 489A, 489B
Tamil Nadu Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) HM Jayaram on Monday met DG Tihar, Sanjay Beniwal, in connection with the murder of gangster Tillu Tajpuria inside prison.
The accused were identified as Jitendra Gurjar and Dharmendra Sisodiya. They recently committed a crime of killing a youth in daylight in the Freeganj area of the district on May 4.
