Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will hold a meeting of all the District Collectors on Monday to review the situation of heavy rains and floods in the state.
While addressing the media, CM Shinde said, "I have ordered the Commissioner of BMC to assure people get back to their homes safely and rescue those who are stuck in the rain".
IMD Mumbai has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs with the possibility of very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar during the next 3-4 hours.
Due to active monsoon conditions enhanced rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at a few places over parts of Konkan and adjoining ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during the next 2-3 days," the IMD stated.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner I S Chahal yesterday inspected various flood-prone locations, including Mithi river and Gandhi Market in King's Circle and instructed ward-level officers to closely monitor the situation in subways.
The BMC said that the decision has been taken due to the late arrival of monsoon, this year. The civic body said this has led to a decrease in the level of lakes due to less rain in the catchment areas.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has predicted heavy to very heavy rain which is likely to continue in Mumbai over the next four to five days in the financial capital.
Four persons injured were reported, Mahadev Khilare (50 yrs/M), Sunita Khilare (42 yrs/F), Rohit Khilare (23yrs/M), Vaibhav Khilare (20 yrs/M). "All are treated on an OPD basis; the condition is stable," said Dr. Manish, AMO, Rajawadi Hospital.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds in parts of Maharashtra during the next three to four hours.
