According to officials, locals of the area noticed the fire and raised an alarm. Following the information, fire tenders reached the spot and started the operation to douse the fire.
The rescue operation is scheduled to begin tomorrow morning at approximately 8:15 am, following the arrival of the diving team from Colaba, an official said.
"It was not a fire incident but a regular maintenance drill where there was some smoke from their chimney and it seemed like a fire. We also moved our teams to the spot but nothing was there. We are still at the spot", said the official in Mumbai Fire Brigade.
According to a Mumbai Fire Brigade official, the fire has been extinguished and 50-60 people trapped inside the building were safely evacuated through a staircase of the adjacent building.
